Hello Thurgood Marshall Bar Association (TMBA) Members and Supporters!
Happy Black History Month! TMBA is on the heels of a very successful Inaugural Scholarship Awards and Installation Dinner. Thank you so much to everyone who attended! The event would not have been possible without our spectacular sponsors, Carothers, DiSante, & Freudenberger, Crowell & Moring, JAMS, Chapman Law School, Western State College of Law, Robinson Calcagnie, Inc., Littler Mendelson, Howard Law P.C., Orange County Women Lawyers Association, Hispanic Bar Association, Black Chamber of Orange County, and the Diversity & Social Justice Forum. We are so grateful for the incredible support.
We would also like to congratulate all of our award recipients, Judge Karen L. Robinson (Legal Excellence Award), Jay Austin (Lifetime Leadership Award), Professor Michelle Goodwin (Professor of the Year), and our Law Student Ambassadors, Sandra Davidson, Bradford Oduguwa, Rick Reener Jr., Canon Thomas, Andre X. Webb, Christopher Williams, and Kimberlyn Young. We are proud of all your accomplishments.
Click here to view pictures from the event and let us know if you or your organization would like to be supporters of the second annual installation dinner next January.
TMBA has two wonderful events planned for this month. We hope that you are able to join us in these celebrations. First, we will be present at the 35th Annual Black History Parade and Cultural Faire located in Anaheim, California on Saturday, February 3, 2018. Please join us for a day filled with food, music, and celebration of Black History. It is truly a wonderful and family-friendly event, and I encourage all members to attend.
On February 22, 2018, TMBA is co-sponsoring the “Meet and Greet Social” mixer with the Diversity & Inclusion and Young Lawyers Division of the Orange County Bar Association (see attached flyer). I hope to see many of you at this event, which is aimed at promoting diversity and inclusion, while bringing various members of the OCBA together for networking.
As you can see, TMBA is off to a great start for 2018. With sixteen installed board members, there are endless possibilities to the things we can accomplish this year. Please make sure to pay for your membership dues this year so that TMBA can continue hosting events and scholarship opportunities that support our mission to connect, support, and increase the Black legal community in Orange County.
All the best,
Denisha
2018 President
